James Hall started shooting at a local 4-H Club with his three younger brothers. Shooting sports quickly evolved to involve the entire Hall family, as his mom helped coach the club for many years.

He was a member of the Jacksonville State University Rifle Team and in 2005 led the JSU Rifle Team to an NCAA Smallbore National Championship. Hall received elite honors as an NRA All-American all four years and was named the Conference Smallbore and Air Rifle Most Valuable Player in 2005 and 2006.

After a successful NCAA rifle career, Hall spent several years coaching. He worked as a graduate assistant and a volunteer coach before picking up pistol shooting.

It was Hall who secured the first U.S quota spot in Men’s Air Pistol by winning gold at the 2018 Championship of the Americas. He had only been competing on the world class international pistol scene a few months prior when he made his 2018 World Championships debut. Hall made his first Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, placing 10th, and was the first person from JSU to represent the U.S. in the Olympics.

Hall is the Director of Development for International rifle and pistol disciplines at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation. James and his wife, Sarah, live in Missouri with their 2 children.
